Catholics have a great love for Mary, the Mother of Christ.
Some Christians think Catholics take their love for Mary a little too far, believing that Catholics actually worship Mary. To those not familiar with Catholic teaching, this could appear to be the case. But, in reality, nothing could be farther from the truth. She is not worshiped but highly honored as the one woman in human history chosen by God to bring his Son, Jesus the incarnate Word of God, into the world. The Catechism of the Catholic Church in paragraph 971 explains it this way: "The Church's devotion to the Blessed Virgin is intrinsic to Christian worship and she is rightly honored with special devotion. This very special devotion differs essentially from the adoration which is given to the incarnate Word and equally to the Father and the Holy Spirit." Mary is not worshiped, but is the model of Christian perfection to which we are all called and what a blessed model she is!

Catholics have a great love for Mary, the Mother of Christ.
Some Christians think Catholics take their love for Mary a little too far, believing that Catholics actually worship Mary. But, in reality, nothing could be farther from the truth. To understand why Catholics are so affectionate and attached to the Blessed Mother, you need only look at the most primal of all emotions: the bond between a mother and her child. Motherhood is biological, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual. For nine months the flesh, the heart, the mind, and the soul are intertwined in a way like no other. During our life, even if we are separated from our Mother by distance or conflict, the desire for love and affection from our Mother is always present. Jesus loved his Mother like no other and gave her to us as our spiritual Mother. Hence we should likewise love and honor the Blessed Mother as our Mother too.
