Was Mary Without Sin? #1

The Catholic Church teaches that Mary, the Mother of Christ, was born without sin and remained sinless throughout her life.
Many Non-Catholics object to this claim. However, in Chapter 1 Verse 28 of Luke's Gospel which was written in Greek, the Angel Gabriel addresses Mary using the word (kuh-hair-it-o-many) kecharitomene, which is usually translated as "full of grace", although that fails to adequately capture the full meaning of this term. A closer look reveals that it denotes someone who has been, still is, and will forever be the object of divine grace. This term is not used anywhere else in scripture to describe a human being. The Catholic Church takes Gabriel at his word and from the beginning has always taught the truth that Mary was conceived sinless through the Immaculate Conception and that throughout her life as well, by the grace of God, she was preserved from committing any sin.

The Catholic Church teaches that Mary, the Mother of Christ, was born without sin and remained sinless throughout her life.
Many Non-Catholics object to this claim. Some ask the question, “Why would God have granted such a gift to Mary and no one else in human history?” The answer lies in the Gospel of John Chapter 1 Verse 14 which says, "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we saw his glory, the glory as of the Father's only Son, full of grace and truth." This scripture, of course, is referring to Jesus who received his human flesh from his Mother Mary. God the Father wanted his sinless Son, Jesus, to receive his human nature from a sinless mother. Isn't it most fitting that Jesus, the Incarnate Word of God, be born of and raised by a woman without sin.
The Catholic Church teaches that Mary, the Mother of Christ, was born without sin and remained sinless throughout her life.
Many Non-Catholics object to this claim. Some Christians argue that Mary's sinlessness is impossible because St. Paul writes in Romans chapter 3 verse 23, that "all have sinned." But in Scripture the Greek word used for "all" was “pas”. This word doesn't always literally mean, "every single one without exception." For example, in the same letter to the Romans Chapter 11 Verse 26, St. Paul writes that "all Israel will be saved", yet we suspect that at least some of the Jewish people were not saved. More importantly, we should always remember that Jesus who shared our human nature, was without sin. This fact alone demonstrates that St. Paul cannot mean that "every single human being has sinned."

Some Christians object saying that if Mary was sinless, she did not need Christ as her Savior. But the Catholic Church teaches, as does Scripture, that she did indeed need a divine Savior. In the Gospel of Luke Chapter 1 Verses 46-47, after her cousin Elizabeth and the baby she was carrying, John the Baptist, recognize that Mary is carrying the Messiah, Mary says, "My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my savior." Mary, the Mother of God, was not saved out of sin, but rather she was saved from sin. The rest of us are delivered out of original and personal sin, while she was preserved from it. Either way, her salvation, like ours, is God's gracious gift through the life, death, and resurrection of her Son, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
